The Scale of the Net Zero Challenge

The price of meeting net zero is estimated to be between $100-150 trillion over the next 30 years. Regardless of this cost, we need to reach net zero before climate change does irreversible damage to the environment and the economy.

Key learning objectives:

  • Understand the importance of supplier-specific data

  • Outline the benefits of connected LCAs

Overview:

Better data brings better decisions - and you need the best. After building a model with background data from industry averages, it is common to identify processes from which we require more specific models. You may start your LCA with a global average for a given supplier, then adapt it to your context. The difference between manufacturers can be considerable. The industry context can change often, so being up to date is crucial. Specific data drives action - by involving our supplier in our LCA conversations, we can start a meaningful discussion on how to reduce emissions. Through connected LCAs you can share with your supplier the best available model from databases, so they can just modify those to be more informative and accurate.

Summary

Why is gathering supplier-specific data important?

After building a model with background data from industry averages, it is common to identify processes from which we require more specific models. You may start your LCA with a global average for a given supplier, then adapt it to your context, and finally ask your supplier to tailor it to the specific case with their own LCA. Better data brings better decisions - and you need the best.

What are the benefits of connected LCAs?

Specific data drives action - by involving our supplier in our LCA conversations, we can start a meaningful discussion on how to reduce emissions. Through connected LCAs you can share with your supplier the best available model from databases, so they can just modify those to be more informative and accurate. Modern technology allows for a new way of engaging suppliers. You can share with your supplier the best available model from databases and they can just modify those to be more informative and accurate. Adapting the information in those models is a trivial task for a supplier.
