Debt-for-Nature Swaps
Debt-for-Nature Swaps are financial transactions which allow developing countries to offset a certain amount of the debts they owe to developed nations and organisations, by restructuring them in exchange for conservation commitments, intended to protect the natural ecosystems and biodiversity of the debtors' countries. Since many threatened natural environments, such as rainforests and coral reefs, exist in these parts of the world, these swaps provide us with the combined possibility of increased global conservation and greater local financial stability in developing nations.
